Nokia 808 with 41 megapixel by nokia belle

Description:
We all know that the Finnish company, Nokia used to be the pioneer in mobile phones. Come on – honestly, who does not remember 3310 – the one strong contender that would give, even Chuck Norris, a hard time.
Over time the Nokia star somewhat lost its brightness; and although the ‘avoiding meteor’ days for the big star might be not be over just yet, it has joined hands with Microsoft and is now the leading Windows Phone selling company around  – see, Isn’t that bit of shine just beautiful now?
So dropping the astronomical relations and coming back to Earth where beautiful events such as the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and MWC (Mobile World Congress) are held each year. Oh yes, the events that we all look forward to in wake of what latest gadget or technology we are going to get to lay our hands on in the (near) future.
The MWC this year was big as always. Many companies brought their soon to be released gadgets, and Nokia was one of such companies. Among the smartphones that Nokia had brought along to exhibit at the MWC, the Nokia Pureview 808 was a highlight of its showcase.

The Pureview 808 is one giant phone. The big giant utilizes the Symbian Operating System, and who knows, this could be the last Symbian phone by Nokia. Pureview 808 is equipped with the Nokia Belle OS and a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor. The giant 4 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen features Nokia ClearBlack display, promising bright and sharp colours.

The main attraction of this smartphone is its camera. The smartphone features a 41 Megapixel camera. Yes, you read it right, a never seen before 41 MP camera; one which features Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and Xenon flash.

The camera features a 1/1.2” sensor size, an ND filter and up to 3x lossless digital zoom. Other features include geo-tagging and face detection, etc.

The camera is by default set to 41 MP, but can be adjusted to lower MP. Nokia recommends using at 5 MP, and claims its lossless effectiveness to be up to 38 MP.

The image quality is no doubt great, but there is no real application of the use of a 41 MP camera in our everyday lives. The image clarity, however, is indeed outstanding at a lower resolution

Now this is no doubt a great feat integrating such an outstanding sense technology into a smartphone, but somewhere along the line competition took over the discipline in manufacturing smartphones; and now the services or purpose of the services they offer have fallen far out of proportion. Others may argue, but why not rather get a proper digital camera dedicated to the task of photography and video recording if you are just aiming to buy a smartphone for the sake of the camera it includes as one of its features.

Samsung Galaxy Note

"A tablet or a phone?" That is what I thought (quite like what they point out in the ads) when I fist held the device in my hands. After I got the answer to the first question (it's a smartphone), another question immediately popped up: Will this massive phone fit into my pocket? Yes, it does. I was quite surprised to find that the phone not only fit into my jeans but I was also comfortable sitting and walking around with it in my pocket. Only that most heads turned in my direction noticing me speaking on this giant phone. But the phone is comfortable to hold and carry.

Hardware

The phone's large screen was the first thing that attracted me. Though its big screen might turn off some, but it did please me a lot. The phone may have a huge screen, but is 9.65 mm slim. It is only a wee-bit thicker than the Samsung Galaxy SII which measures 8.49mm. Weighing 178g, the Galaxy Note is (obviously) significantly heavier than Galaxy SII that weighs 116g.

Borrowing its looks from the other Samsung Galaxy devices, the Galaxy Note looks graceful. It has a hardware home key and two backlit buttons - home and menu - in the front. There is a 2 megapixel front facing camera, proximity and light sensors on the front side. It has a 3.5mm jack on the top of the phone and a multifunction micro USB interface on the bottom. The left side has a volume rocker while the power/reset/lock key is placed on the right side (standard Samsung style). The back has a texture panel. There is an 8 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash and a speaker on the rear.

To make the most of the large screen and the things that users can do with it, Samsung has added, what it calls the S Pen. Something I found quite intriguing. The S pen is not merely a stylus. More about the S Pen later in this review.

When you open the back of the phone, there is a microSD card slot that can support memory card up to 16GB.

Some of you might find it unusual and unpleasant to hold this giant device up to your ear. Well, I won't mind taking it up to my ear and talking for long.

Display

The phone has a 5.3-inch HD super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1280x800 pixel resolution (it is the largest smartphone around). Its display is as gorgeous as it is enormous. Though its display is not a part of Samsung's PLUS family, but its HD screen is vibrant and sharp. Thanks to its 285 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution. However, this phone does not have the highest pixel density as phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4S do a little better on this front.

The screen offers beautiful colours and good viewing angles. Reading books and magazines on this screen is quite a treat. Newspapers though, are a little difficult to read.

Camera

Undoubtedly, the 8 megapixel camera delivers excellent and sharp images – just like the Galaxy SII. It offers scores of options to customise images like self portrait mode, shooting modes, effects, white balance, timer, exposure value and more. But the image quality in low light conditions did not always live upto my expectations.

Also, the zoom in and zoom out were not smooth. There are some minor jerks that are easily visible when you zoom in and out. But on the whole, the camera lets you take crisp snaps and is more than satisfying.

In video mode too, the camera performed quite well. The phone can shoot 1080p full HD video at 30 frames per seconds. Again the jerky zoom can be an irritant.

Barring the zoom smoothness, Samsung has loaded an effective camera on the Galaxy Note.

OS and user interface

When you power on the phone, it takes very less time to boot. The phone runs Android 2.3 operating system on which Samsung has applied its TouchWiz UI layer. The phone's touch is quite responsive, and the interface is pretty intuitive and engaging.

I am eagerly waiting for the Galaxy Note on Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

S Pen

The company has packed the Galaxy Note with the S Pen. This S Pen, apart from its huge screen, is the USP of the Galaxy Note. The S Pen is more than stylus and includes a button on the side of the pen. The S Pen can do much more than what we can not expect from a standard stylus.

The S Pen has the ability to take screen shots which can be edited and shared online in real-time. The user just needs to tap and hold to capture a screenshot, which instantly gets opened in an image editor. One can make any changes there like circling some elements, adding annotations and other marks. From there the document can be saved or shared on social networking sites or mailed to any email address. There is a button on the side of the pen which needs to be pressed while capturing a screen shot.

Because the button's colour is the same as the S Pen, it is often difficult to locate it. Samsung should have thought about giving the button a different shade of grey.

The elephantine display and the S pen here make a great combo. With the added S Pen, the phone (supported by its handwriting recognition software) lets you make notes on the fly and eliminates the need of having a separate notepad.

Samsung has also designed some unique apps especially for this device for users to take advantage of the S Pen. The S Memo app is one of them and comes pre-loaded. There is an S Choice app store that includes apps specifically designed for the S Pen.

Judgement

It is safe to say that if you are planning to buy a Galaxy Note then you are going to make a good deal (but you may wish to wait a little for the prices - Rs 34990 - to drop a bit). Its jumbo HD Super AMOLED display is what should please you the most, particularly people who don't want to lug a tablet around but want a tablet-like experience with the portability of a smartphone. Watching videos on this phone is also quite amazing. The Samsung Galaxy Note does indeed bridge the gap between a phone and tablet.

It is very possible that the Galaxy Note revives the smartphone-tablet section and depending on its success other manufacturers may very soon come up with their own 5" phone-tablet combos.

Google adds graphing calculator to search

For those who have misplaced their TI-83 graphing calculator, Google has introduced a graphing tool that plots mathematical functions on the search results page.

Students and lovers of all things math need merely to type in a function to the Google search bar, and the tool will render an interactive graph, Google explained today in a company blogannouncing the new tool.

"You can zoom in and out and pan across the plane to explore the function in more detail. You can also draw multiple functions by separating them with commas," Google engineer Adi Avidor wrote. "This feature covers an extensive range of single variable functions including trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic and their compositions, and is available in modern browsers."

"I hope students and math lovers around the world find this experience as magical as I found the graphing calculator so long ago," Avidor wrote.

Google's new tool joins Wolfram Alpha, the self-described "computational knowledge engine" that launched two years ago, in helping users plot mathematical functions.

The difference between NETBOOK and NOTEBOOK!

Light vs. Ultralight
Both styles of PC are designed for easy travel, yet there's a notable difference between the lighter-than-air netbooksand the more substantial notebooks.

Netbooks
Netbooks are all about computing on the move. Weighing less than three pounds, with screens that are 12 inches or smaller, a netbook can be tossed easily into a backpack or purse, or even carried comfortably in one hand. If you lug your machine around all day long, that's a major consideration.

Netbooks are leaner, and better suited to web-based usage, as they rarely have a CD or DVD drive. Their processors make them both energy-efficient and power-conscious, but that also means they're designed to run fewer programs simultaneously.

If you have a web-driven lifestyle, such as blogging for work or pleasure, netbooks are a sleek way to go. Less hardware means less power drain, so netbooks have a longer battery life, lasting up to twelve hours without a charge. If an ultra-light machine can handle your needs, it's definitely the better choice.

Notebooks
Notebooks are more substantial, with larger keyboards and screens, built-in DVD drives, and more computing strength. With a weight starting at about five pounds, notebooks are built with the heft to edit massive video files, create graphics, or manage large music libraries. Keep in mind that more tech muscle requires more human muscle (to carry) and electric muscle (to power).

The larger hard drive of a notebook delivers power and speed, capable of storing huge amounts of content while easily running multiple data-heavy programs. If your priority is strength over convenience, then notebooks are the best.

LCD vs. Battery Life
There’s a clear trade-off between the size of the LCD screen and the length of battery life. If a large screen is your main priority, notebooks are for you. Just remember that increased screen size has a corresponding battery drain, too.

Power vs. Convenience: The Choice Is Yours
Are you creating content or consuming it? If you need a machine that offers "heavy lifting" in terms of performance, you need a notebook. If your lifestyle allows you to travel lightly, then netbooks are the best choice for you.

The Slimmest and Lightest 17″ Gaming Laptop Ever

Gaming laptops have been in the market for quite some time now, these have been mostly desktop replacements as they wieghed an average of 10 pounds and no less than 2 inches thick. Then again the existence of laptops which are ultra thin and ultra portable cannot be ignored but when it comes to gaming performance these machines misses the mark by a mile. Razer has fabricated a laptop called Blade which they claim to be the World’s first true gaming laptop.

The reason they made this outrageous statement is because of the ability of the Blade to balance performance and portability perfectly. The performance of the laptop is still sketchy but the portability factor of this laptop is clearly unseen in any 17″ gaming laptop. Then again Razer has developed blade in close partnership with Pentium therefore suprises can surely be expected.

Blade graphics is powered by a next genereation Nvidia discrete GPU GT555m with 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 with Optimus technology to save you battery life. It also offers a decent 8GB of RAM and a 320 GB SATA hardrive. The display 17.3″ LED backlit is the highlight of the machines that supports 1080p HD video.
The chassis of Razer Blade is milled out of pure aluminium to give its slim profile a sturdy backbone. The Blade is 16.81″ wide having a depth of 10.90″ .88″ thick and weighing at a 3.16 kg the machine seems to be on a strict diet. Packed with power of an average full size gaming PC Blade may seem to be a stunner. That is until have heard its horrendous price of $2800.

Computer technologies

There are many aspects involved in the topic of computer technology. Studying this field could lead to several possible careers. Among these are software development, systems integration, data management, computer networks, information security, wireless networking and a host of other possibilities.

When you broach the subject surrounding computer technologies the possibilities are virtually endless. Since the onslaught of the internet several years ago computer technology has drastically increased its focus to encompass areas that many never knew were possible.

There are so many avenues to explore when one is pursuing a career or simply an interest in computer technology. Whether you are interested in networking, graphic design, computer game programming or you would simply like to learn about all the latest computer technologies that are currently being developed, you have a wide range of possible topics in this area.
The computer industry has consistently become one of the fast growing industries for the last 20 years or so. According to a recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States, the job market for computer related skills has been extremely high for the last few years and continues to grow.

In fact, jobs related to computer and data processing services account for an addition of more than 1.3 millions jobs between 1996 and 2006. This represents a 108 percent increase over the years prior to 1996, and that is for just the United States alone.

Another note about the computer industry job force is that the current lack of qualified individuals for high tech positions has increased the average salary levels in the field quite rapidly. For those interested in computer technologies, who are also well versed in mathematics and science, the job outlook in this field is tremendous.

Of course you do not need to be a mathematical or scientific genius to pursue a career in the field of computer technology. If you are creative and have an artistic skill you could also pursue a career in either graphic design or multimedia services.

There are many colleges and universities that offer specialized education and training in all fields related to computer technology. There are also many technical schools for those who would rather forgo college or university studies.

These schools offer certificates of completion on a wide range of courses such as computer technicians and computer programmers. The courses through a vocational or technical school typically last only nine months compared to two to four years in a college or university setting.

The emerging technologies surrounding computers is phenomenal. What began as simply a way to keep files organized has become a way to conduct business globally, create new software and other applications, keep in touch with family and friends and have a business that is more lucrative than many have ever imagined.

Years ago computers were a phenomenon simply because they existed. With the technologies that are constantly being created today, computers are even more of a phenomenon in areas that many have never dreamed possible. From conducting global business meetings to creating full-length movies, the computer technologies of today far surpass what many thought possible.

And this is only the beginning. There are more programs, software and devices constantly being developed to take the computer industry into a whole new realm in the future.

A new era of computer worms: Wireless mobile worms

The SymbOS/Cabir worm indicates a totally new era of computer worms that will slowly become more popular as wireless smart phones replace current mobile phone systems, which have limited programming ability. The Cabir worm appeared in June 2004, and it has a number of unique features. This worm can run on Nokia 60 series phones running the Symbian operating system. The Symbian operating system is based on the EPOC. In fact, Symbian is EPOC version 6, also called EPOC32, but has a new name.

Interestingly, the Cabir worm spreads using the Bluetooth feature of wireless phones.

The worm's code is compatible with mobile phones using ARM series processors with Symbian operating system. Normally, by default the Bluetooth communication feature is off on mobile phones. Mobile phone users might exchange some little programs, and in doing so they open up the Bluetooth communication channel to Cabir-like worms as well.

When executed, Cabir installs itself into several directories of the Symbian OS intending to make sure it will run each time the user boots the phone. Fortunately, this operation is disallowed in newer phone models. However, on older phones, worm components cannot be easily found without using custom file manager applications. Cabir does not enumerate Bluetooth devices; instead, it tries to find only the first such device and communicates with that device. The standard Bluetooth range is about 30 feet, and apparently not all Bluetooth devices like to communicate with each other. (However, researchers such as Mark Rowe are experienced with Bluetooth signal amplification and pointed out that attackers could utilize such technology to extend the Bluetooth range to about 300 feet, reliably.) In addition, researchers such as Ollie Whitehouse of @stake also demonstrated that Bluetooth devices are discoverable even in the so-called "non-discoverable" mode. Several Bluetooth-related attack tools exist today including the most popular Bluesniff, Btscanner, PSMscan and Redfang.

During the natural infection tests, Cabir first talked to a Bluetooth printer, which strangely acted as a "sticky" honeypot system and blocked the worm given that the printer did not support the Object Exchange (OBEX) protocol that is required to send a file. However, the worm successfully infected another phone as soon as I turned the Bluetooth printer off. Cabir is overly active in finding other phones and that can easily drain the battery of the phone similarly to natural situations when your phone is hopelessly attempting to find a provider without finding one in range.

A further problem is that you need to "hide" with mobile phones when you test replicate worms. Although the recipient needs to accept the incoming message to successfully receive the message, you do not want to infect another phone "by accident." In fact, there are several known vulnerabilities of Bluetooth systems, and some of these can be utilized to execute arbitrary code on Pocket PC devices, while others can be used to implement phishing attacks on a number of smart phones types.

Sure enough, in the future you can expect that worms are going to make phone calls from your mobile phone instead of you. There might be a new era of MMS- (Multimedia Messaging Service) based mass mailer worms as well as SMS- (Short Messages Services) based downloaders, porn dialers and spammer applications, as well. Who is going to pay the bill?

Galaxy Nexus vs Samsung Galaxy S2

Samsung’s global Galaxy S2 or S II is surprisingly better than any other US models — that’s the fact. Many have predicted that the Samsung Galaxy S II will grab this year’s “flagship” title, but it looks like the reign is being challenged by a new Samsung device with the latest version of Android, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus.Samsung obviously wants to compete against the iPhone with its Galaxy S2 (global) especially in countries in Europe and Asia. After playing with the device ( I discovered that it’s a variant for Russia) for 24 hours, I realized that the WVGA (480 x 800) screen on the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus isn’t that bad, and the so-called “plasticky” feel is not really a drawback. My personal favorites are the snappiness and less cartoony new TouchWiz UI, and the thickness of phone: the thinnest Android phone I’ve used yet.

I started using the Galaxy S II last week, obviously after the Android Ice Cream Sandwich was launched in Hong Kong. It is highly possible that I’m bored with the new TouchWiz user interface because Android Ice Cream Sandwich exists, and it is more compelling, more productive, and it has the unexplainable ”drama” within its user interface which is quite similar to iOS.

According to Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S II is its most popular smartphone to date based on the sales and units shipped. I haven’t seen the Galaxy Nexus yet, but I’m confident that it will outsell the Galaxy S II with the help of Verizon Wireless and other wireless carriers including the rumored AT&T and T-Mobile version.

Owning a Nexus device is better than owning a TouchWiz-based Samsung device mainly because Nexus phones tend to get the latest and greatest Android updates relatively quickly. Plus, Nexus devices are free from custom user interface or tweaks made by third-party manufacturers.

However, an Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade could change the overall Galaxy S II experience, especially if it will use a slightly modified version of Android 4.0, free from the heavy customization offered by TouchWiz. I should also mention that I’m excited to see the performance of Exynos+Mali when it comes to handling the Ice Cream Sandwich.
